I interviewed Yoko in dance studio, she has been studying pole dancing for 10 years and teaching for 4 years.she teaches 2 choreography classes a week, and every week is gonna be a new difference dance, so she has to keep creating a new dance.
Right now she is using pencil and paper to write it down or sometimes just record whatever comes to her mind. It's really time-consuming and too much work.
She also told me a interesting exercise she did in class, which is mix&match--is a game that everyone write down the 2 tricks you like and put it in a box and randomly choose 2 tricks to freestyle a new routine.
Beginner dancers: various grips and poses on the pole.thigh holds, laybacks, headstands and spins.
Intermediate dancers:Tricks and moves may include inside/outside inverted leg hangs, shoulder mounts and/or flag holds.
Advanced dancers: eagle contortion, Russian splits, Chinese mounts and dramatic drops. Many advanced classes are taught on a spinning pole
Routine the completely choreographed sequence of steps and movements in dance or other staged dance, A song is requirement, 1:30-5:00 duration time.
It is a tool that can help pole dancers to create their dance routine, like a storyboard tool. It solved not only intermediate and advanced dancers creating their routine with a clear vision of how the dance will be like, but also beginner dancers who can’t create their own routine through the “mix & match” feature.
